Saint Alphonsa
First woman of Indian origin canonized as a Catholic saint
St. Alphonsa Public School and Junior College takes its name and institutional ethos from Saint Alphonsa, a Franciscan Clarist nun who lived her religious vocation in Bharananganam, adjacent to the Aruvithura campus.
Her tomb at Bharananganam serves as a major national pilgrimage shrine. The school was established in 1990 under her patronage by the Franciscan Clarist Convent Education Society to foster moral integrity, academic discipline, and social concern among students.
